Marking a third consecutive day of major swings, the S&P 500 Index (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC ) slid 1.4% Wednesday, largely because of results from a singular, $1.1 billion company that triggered a sort of domino effect in the markets. However, today's three worst stocks all slipped far more than 1.4%, for various reasons.
Aerospace and defense company Textron (NYSE: TXT ) was easily the most beleaguered in the 500 stock index, losing 13.4% of its value in trading today. An extremely bleak earnings report was to blame: it seems business jets just aren't as popular as they once were! Euphemistically, this is known as a "soft" market, in the words of Textron's CEO. A more than 550% increase from recent average trading volume shows that shareholders fled from the stock en masse.
Teradyne (NYSE: TER ) , a test equipment and semiconductor producer, slipped 6.1% as technology companies made for some of the worst performers of the day, declining 2.4% as a sector. The stock's woes today weren't much helped by the negative momentum it's had in the last month, when Teradyne saw more than 12% declines; the first-quarter earnings announcement is set for next Wednesday. Though Teradyne's slide shouldn't be overlooked, the most notable laggard of the day is yet to come.

Names like Implant Sciences Corporation (OTCMKTS:IMSC) and NXT-ID (OTCBB:NXTD) are battling in the security and facility-defense arena as well; IMSC makes explosives-detection and drug-detection hardware, while NXTD designs 3D image-rendering software that caters to the unique needs of prison security personnel, though the same technology has been proven in more traditional functions like building-security systems that keep certain people out rather than in. Neither Implant Sciences nor NXT-ID compete directly head-to-head with View Systems, however ... fortunately for them. See, VSYM is considered by some to be the best in the industry.

An interesting angle is his tie to a lawyer in Las Vegas, Michael Balabon, who purports to have two separate practices, including a bankruptcy/divorce practice and an employment law practice who has acted as Registered Agent for many of these companies. I was unable to reach anyone at either office on several occasions. In any event, Balabon is the registered agent for PLPL. Coincidentally, he served in that role for NVLX as well as well as all of the former subsidiaries and partners the firm used (the new Medical Marijuana Sciences subsidiary too). Currently, three main companies supply security equipment to the TSA - Safran (SAFRY.PK), Smiths (SMGKF.PK), and Level-3 Holdings (LLL). All three of these companies sell the whole range of their products to the TSA, with an ETD offering included. Recently, however, a new company, Implant Sciences Corporation (IMSC.PK) received approval from the TSA to begin selling their ETD equipment to airport security professionals. This approval has opened the door for IMSC to begin taking some market share away from the more established players in the US and beyond.
