5 Best Defensive Stocks To Watch For 2014

The equity team at Goldman Sachs led by David Kostin has a problem. See, they think the stock market is heading higher–they think the S&P 500 will hit 2,100 in 2015. They also think the market looks, if not expensive, at least fully priced. They explain why that’s a problem:

Agence France-Presse/Getty Images

The combination of improving growth, elevated equity valuation, and low bond yields creates a conundrum for investors. Higher growth and low yields favor a shift into pro-cyclical equities but sticker shock following a prolonged rally makes the decision less clear. We remain positive on Cyclicals outperforming Defensives and believe tight valuation dispersion means different growth is being assigned similar prices.

Kostin’s advice: Look for stocks in each sector that have lower valuations, higher growth rates and higher yields than their peers. He found 15 stocks fitting the bill including Eaton (ETN), Whirlpool (WHR), GameStop (GME), Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold (FCX) and Dow Chemical (DOW).

Downstream is engaged in manufacturing; distribution and marketing activities for oil products and chemicals, in alternative energy (excluding wind), and carbon dioxide (CO2) management. Corporate represents the key support functions, comprising holdings and treasury, headquarters, central functions and Shell self-insurance activities. In October 2011, the Company bought a marine terminal on Canada's Pacific Coast as a possible site for a liquefied natural gas export terminal. In January 2012, the Company's 50% owned, Australia Arrow Energy Holdings Pty Ltd acquired all of the shares in Bow Energy Ltd. In January 2014, Royal Dutch Shell plc completed the acquisition of Repsol S.A.'s liquefied natural gas (LNG) portfolio outside North America.

Upstream International manages the Upstream businesses outside the Americas. It searches for and recovers crude oil and natural gas, liquefies and transports gas, and operates the upstream and midstream infrastructure necessary to deliver oil and gas to market. Upstream International also manages Shell entire liquefied petroleum gas (LNG) business, gas to liquids (GTL) and the wind business in Europe. Advisors' Opinion:

But, to my mind, the biggest news of last week for the valuation of Cheniere actually came from Royal Dutch Shell (RDSB). Europe's biggest oil company announced that it would halt plans to build a $20 billion natural gas of liquids plant in Louisiana, even though the state of Louisiana had agreed on $112 million in subsidies. The project would have used cheap US natural gas to produce 140,000 barrels a day of liquid fuels normally made from oil. Royal Dutch Shell cited rising costs and uncertainty about oil and natural gas prices by the time the plant entered operation, in canceling the project.

Advisors' Opinion:

The much smaller Barrett Business Services (NASDAQ: BBSI  ) has done even better, soaring 154% over the last 12 months.

While that might suggest the opportunity to invest in them has passed, I believe their biggest gains are still ahead. While tentativeness among employers about whether the economy is really improving is helping employers to hire more temp workers, the coming implementation of Obamacare will fuel it further. Even with the employer mandate portion of the law being pushed out past the midterm elections to 2015 instead of going into effect on January 1, that just means more companies will be hiring more temp workers for a longer period of time to get below the thresholds the health-care law imposes.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Jonas Elmerraji]

Investors think Waste Management (WM) is a garbage stock right now. Why else would WM's short interest ratio hover around 12.6? Of course, Waste Management is in fact a garbage stock of sorts -- it is the largest waste management service provider in the country. The firm boasts more than 270 landfills and a massive fleet of trash collection vehicles that spans the U.S.

When I think garbage firms, the first thing that comes to mind is dividends: WM and its peers historically have generous, recession-resistant dividend payouts. Currently, Waste Management's yield adds up to 3.36% annually. Don't forget, dividends are like kryptonite to short sellers.

WM's willingness to embrace innovation has big potential in the years ahead. Right now, the firm's portfolio includes 22 waste-to-energy plants that are designed to turn the waste that WM literally gets paid to collect into renewable energy that the firm gets paid for again. At this point, the firm's energy plants make up a very small part of its total business, but waste-to-energy projects and the recent acquisition of small oil service firms should look attractive to investors right now.

Earnings in two months look like the next big catalyst for a short squeeze in WM.

  • [By Daniel Sparks]

The payout ratio is an excellent tool for dividend investors. Without it, it's tough to judge how sustainable a company's dividend is. Though a lower payout ratio is always better than a high payout ratio, some companies can easily cope with higher ratios than others. In the video below, Fool contributor Daniel Sparks looks atApple (NASDAQ: AAPL  ) , Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT  ) , and Waste Management (NYSE: WM  ) , illustrating how the ratio deserves careful attention during analysis.

  • [By Selena Maranjian]

It can be good, though, with kids, to add a few individual company stocks to the mix, to keep things more interesting. A solid, dividend-paying blue chip such as Waste Management (NYSE: WM  ) can be a smart choice, in part because it's relatively easy to understand. It's reliable because garbage collection is likely to be in great demand for a long time, and the company has become a major recycler, too, even generating energy from some waste.

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

One thing's for sure: You'll never discover truly great investments unless you actively look for them. Let's discuss the ideal qualities of a perfect stock, then decide if Waste Management (NYSE: WM  ) fits the bill.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Jonathan Yates]

When looking at small cap stocks, it is useful to compare the company with others that have expanded in both share price and size. For those considering investing in the $100 billion staffing industry, the growth of TrueBlue (NYSE: TBI) shows what could be the potential path for Labor SMART (OTCBB: LTNC), as both operate in the $29 billion demand labor sector. Other firms have done well in the staffing industry include Paychex (NASDAQ: PAYX) and ManPower Group (NYSE: MAN).

Top 10 Warren Buffett Stocks To Buy Right Now

Richard has actually outperformed Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway over the past three decades.

Why have you never heard of Richard? Well, his name isn't actually Richard. As far as I know, at least.

Richard is the winner of an Excel model I made that generated random investment returns for 65,000 hypothetical investors during the last 30 years. (The model was guided by the boundaries of the market's actual historic returns.)

From a technical perspective, GALT spiked sharply higher here with strong upside volume. This stock has been uptrending for the last three months, with shares ripping higher from its low of $3.95 to its recent high of $13.21. During that move, shares of GALT have been making mostly higher lows and higher highs, which is bullish technical price action. That trade will hit if GALT manages to take out Monday's high of $12.44 and then once it clears its 52-week high at $13.21 with high volume.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in GALT as long as it's trending above some near-term support levels at $11 or at $10 and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that hits near or above 222,171 shares. Quiksilver (ZQK) sure didn’t catch that wave.

    Mark Abramson

Shares of Quiksilver have dropped 42% to $3.36 at 11:35 a.m. today after the Huntington Beach, Calif.-based clothing company reported an adjusted loss of 15 cents a share, missing forecasts for a loss of two cents, on sales of $408.2 million, below the Street consensus for $449 million. Even worse: Quicksilver doesn’t expect sales to get much better.

Monness, Crespi, Hardt’s Jim Chartier explains why he downgraded Quiksilver after today’s plunge:

We are downgrading shares of Quiksilver to Neutral (from Buy) given limited visibility into the timing of the company turnaround. We continue to see a meaningful margin opportunity for ZQK as the company transitions from a founder-led organization to a more efficient, global apparel and footwear company. However, the cyclical/secular industry headwinds in the wholesale channel have proven significantly more challenging that we anticipated. Accordingly, the timing of a potential turn in the wholesale channel appears to be pushed out six to twelve months and we prefer to see evidence that management strategies are working before recommending the stock.

Citigroup’s Kate McShane and Corinna Van der Ghinst wonder if VFC (VFC) will buy Quiksilver:

[We] believe VFC is the most likely apparel company in our universe to make an acquisition in 2014. Our meetings with management have indicated that with the Timberland acquisition fully integrated & growth plans on track, and having returned the balance sheet to pre-TBL debt levels, they are actively seeking their next deal…

Following VFC unsuccessful bid for Billabong LY, we think Quiksilver could be a consideration, based on: 1) a strong, authentic action sports brand; 2) a solid girlswomen brand in Roxy, which we believe still has significant potential, esp given ongoing strength in kidsaction/activewear, 3) DC

Top 10 Airline Stocks To Buy Right Now

DELAFIELD, Wis. (Stockpickr) -- Trading stocks that trigger major breakouts can lead to massive profits. Once a stock trends to a new high, or takes out a prior overhead resistance point, then it's free to find new buyers and momentum players that can ultimately push the stock significantly higher.

>>5 Big Trades to Take Now

One example of a successful breakout trade I flagged recently was airline player Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes (GOL), which I featured in Aug. 30's "5 Stocks Ready to Break Out" at $3.77 a share. I mentioned in that piece that shares of GOL were uptrending strong for the last few months, with shares moving higher from $2.74 to $3.83 a share. Shares of GOL had recently formed a double bottom chart pattern right above its 50-day moving average at $3.57 to $3.55 a share. That move was quickly pushing shares of GOL within range of triggering a near-term breakout trade above some key overhead resistance levels at $3.83 to $4.14 a share.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Asit Sharma]

As last year drew to a close, I reviewed the stock of Alaska Air Group, (NYSE: ALK  ) , and determined that it had room to climb in 2014. So far, so good; through the first quarter of this year, the stock has gained roughly 29%. Is the Seattle-based airline, one of the most efficient U.S. major carriers, getting ahead of itself?

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Sure that gain is huge, both on its own terms and relative to its competitors. Delta has outgained nearly all its peers, as Southwest Airlines (LUV) has gained 82% in 2013, Alaska Air (ALK) has risen 68% and United Continental (UAL) is up 61%. Spirit Airlines (SAVE), with a 144% rise, was one of the few airlines to trump Delta.

  • [By Tim Beyers]

Who wins? We won't know for years, but Southwest is already the leading buyer of the MAX, and as such, seems to be a likely benefactor. There's also Alaska Airlines (NYSE: ALK  ) , which already flies from the continental west coast to various destinations in the Hawaiian Islands. The airline has ordered 37 of the planes to upgrade its fleet.

  • [By Adam Levine-Weinberg]

    Unintended consequences?
As I detailed last month, virtually every major U.S. airline is participating in the upgauging trend. Some, like JetBlue Airways (NASDAQ: JBLU  ) , are expanding their fleets with larger aircraft than they have previously flown. Others, including Alaska Air (NYSE: ALK  ) , are retrofitting existing planes to fit more seats onboard. Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV  ) is doing both of these things! Others, like Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL  ) , are buying larger planes to replace smaller ones that are being removed from service.

Top 10 Airline Stocks To Buy Right Now: United Continental Holdings Inc.(UAL)

The company was formerly known as UAL Corporation and changed its name to United Continental Holdings, Inc. on October 1, 2010. United Continental Holdings, Inc. was founded in 1934 and is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Rich Smith]

It wasn't as big as the Boeing 314, with a smaller wingspan and a shorter range. Yet Boeing modestly calls the DC-3, first flown in 1935, "the greatest airplane of its time," and perhaps "the greatest of all time." Many people agree. Originally built for American Airlines (now US Airways (NYSE: LCC  ) ), the plane soon gained a fan in United Airlines (now United Continental (NYSE: UAL  ) ) -- and then it went on to win sales contracts at nearly three dozen airlines and to (in alliance with its DC-2 predecessor) capture more than 90% of the air-passenger market. The DC-3 carried 28 passengers, or slept 14, which doesn't sound like a lot in today's terms. But it was the first plane capable of carrying enough passengers, and carrying them fuel-efficiently enough, to earn its airline owners a profit.

10 Best Cheapest Stocks To Watch Right Now

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- The most expensive playoff game to see this week is the New Orleans Saints' game in Seattle against the Seahawks, with the cheapest ticket on TicketCity going for $134. TicketCity found that the average ticket price for Saturday's game is a whopping $360.

This weekend, the NFL divisional playoffs might be heating up, but are fans paying up to see them?

"There are a few key factors that are driving record demand for the Saints/Seahawks game.  The Saints have earned the franchise's first-ever road post-season victory, ending the drought at 0-5.  On the other side, the Seahawks have recorded double digit victories in consecutive seasons while their fans continue to break attendance and noise records. It's the perfect storm for driving one of the most expensive divisional game tickets we've seen in recent years," said TicketCity COO Zach Anderson.

This weekend's San Diego Chargers/Denver Broncos game also makes the list of most expensive playoff games in recent years.  To see one of the biggest stars in the NFL, Peyton Manning, and the Broncos host the Chargers, the average ticket on TicketCity will cost you $321.

While ticket prices for the Chargers/Broncos matchup are very similar to last year's AFC div playoff game, according to TicketCity Communications Director Meredith Owen, different factors are driving demand this year compared to last.  Owen says that Ray Lewis' retirement announcement leading into the post season was a major contributor in demand for the Ravens/Broncos 2013 playoff game, while this year's prices are being driven by the fact that the two historical rivals are facing off in the post-season for the first time ever.

But the most expensive playoff game in the last five years goes to the Saints and the 49ers when they played in San Francisco in 2012.  After the Saints went undefeated at home and the 49ers had their first post-season appearance since 2001 -- the average ticket price went for $405... a ! far cry from $84 for the cheapest ticket on TicketCity to see the New England Patriots play the Indianapolis Colts this weekend.

However, from 2002 to current time we see a conflicting relationship between interest rates and stock prices. In this case, as interest rates continued to decline, stock valuations (PEs) followed suit and declined as well. In theory, this should not happen. Because with interest rates so low, as a practical matter bonds become less competitive to stocks, but even worse, today bonds don even offer any real return. This is especially true when you compare blue-chip dividend yields available from stalwarts such as PepsiCo (PEP), Proctor & Gamble (PG), and Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), etc., to interest rates. For the first time since I can remember, these companies are offering higher dividend yields than not only the 10-year Treasury but the 30-year as well.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Dan Caplinger]

For years, investors turned to lesser-known telecom companies for high dividend yields. Windstream (NASDAQ: WIN  ) and Frontier Communications (NASDAQ: FTR  ) became especially popular, as they focused on rural areas where consumers have fewer choices on where to get telecom services. Even though those businesses have been in slow decline, both Frontier and Windstream have made efforts to broaden their offerings to keep up with competition in broadband Internet and business services, with varying degrees of success. Windstream has managed to keep its dividend steady, but Frontier had to cut its dividend twice in recent years, sending its shares down substantially.

  • [By David Dittman]

Question: Is Windstream Holdings (NYSE: WIN) going to continue its dividend?

Answer: Windstream is trading near a four-year low as I type. Management has stuck to the current dividend rate, noting that it’s a big part of the investment case for the stock.

Frank Micelotta/Invision/The Associated PressIn a new Netflix sitcom, Lily Tomlin (left) and Jane Fonda play former foes who unite when their husbands desert them. An identity theft specialist lost its identity, a soda maker teamed up with an old-school appliance brand, Walmart made a play for video games, Netflix announced a new show and yet another online service upped its subscription price. Here's a rundown of the week's smartest moves and biggest blunders in the business world. Netflix (NFLX) -- Winner The leading video service keeps building its digital catalog of original content. Netflix announced on Wednesday that it will be the home of "Grace and Frankie," a new sitcom starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin that's partly the handiwork of "Friends" creator Marta Kaufman. The first season will debut next year. We naturally won't know until we dive into the 13 half-hour episodes come 2015 if the show is any good, but that's also the point of Netflix beefing up its portfolio of first-run shows introduced exclusively on Netflix. Walmart Stores (WMT) -- Loser The world's largest retailer is getting into the video game resale business. Walmart announced on Tuesday that it will begin accepting trade-ins at most of its stores next week. The discounter will swap the games for in-store credit. It will then send off the trade-ins to get refurbished. It will start offering the pre-owned wares later this year. The market is playing this out to be a big hit for GameStop (GME), but let's not kid ourselves. GameStop's sales of pre-owned games fell sharply in 2012 and have gone on to decline in each of 2013's first three quarters. Walmart won't make things easier, but this was already a fading market. Too many new systems rely on digital delivery, making physical discs and their eventual resale obsolete. Walmart's late to the game. SodaStream International (SODA) -- Winner Making soda at home is as popular as ever, and niche leader SodaStream is getting a boost wi

With the stock market reaching all-time record highs (S&P 500: 1900), you would think there would be a lot of cheers, high-fiving, and back slapping. Instead, investors are ignoring the sunny, blue skies and taking off their rose-colored glasses. Rather than securely sleeping like a baby (or relaxing during a three-day weekend) with their investment accounts, people are biting their fingernails with clenched teeth, while searching for a market boogeyman in their closets or under their beds.If you don believe me, all you have to do is pick up the paper, turn on the TV, or walk over to the office water cooler. An avalanche of scary headlines that are spooking investors include geopolitical concerns in Ukraine & Thailand, slowing housing statistics, bearish hedge fund managers (i.e., Tepper Einhorn, Cooperman), declining interest rates, and collapsing internet stocks. In other words, investors are looking for things to worry about, despite record corporate profits and stock prices. Peter Lynch, the manager of the Magellan Fund that posted +2,700% in gains from 1977-1990, put short-term stock price volatility into perspective:ou shouldn worry about it. You should worry what are stocks going to be 10 years from now, 20 years from now, 30 years from now.ather than focusing on immediate stock market volatility and other factors out of your control, why not prioritize your time on things you can control. What investors can control is their asset allocation and spending levels (budget), subject to their personal time horizons and risk tolerances. Micropac (MPAD) sells at 83% of NCAV, has similar (slightly better) z- and f-scores, a FCF margin of 6%, but has ROA of 28%.

  • [By Geoff Gannon] on the amount of stock you can buy and the position size you like. For me, I try not to start buying a stock that I think will never make up 10% of my portfolio. If you don mind having 5% positions in your portfolio, your portfolio can obviously be twice as big as mine and you can still consider buying the same small stocks I do. In terms of specific stocks, it depends on the amount of float and the volume the stock trades in an average month. We are really getting into specifics here. And I may be boring people. But if you like to hear more about the minutiae of how you actually buy and sell tiny stocks like these, let me know, and Il do an article on the subject.

By the way, there is a hard and fast rule of thumb that it usually makes no sense to invest in a company with a market cap that is smaller than your portfolio. This is true for both fund and individual investors. Funds break it all the time. But, frankly, it is probably a waste of an analyst/fund manager time to even analyze such tiny positions relative to the size of the whole portfolio. Since even when we are discussing very small stocks we are still talking about millions and millions of dollars in market cap, this is hardly a concern for most individuals.

So, for individual investors, actual inability to acquire enough shares of a company to meaningful influence their portfolio is rarely the problem. If you bid for a stock month after month youl get your shares.

The concern for individual investors is not whether buying enough shares is possible. The concern is how quickly and easily you can buy and sell. This is what we call iquidity./p>

Instead of thinking about stocks as liquid or illiquid, you should think in terms of your portfolio and your liquidity needs. It doesn't make much sense to use what I'll call an "objective" (as in stock-oriented) approach to liquidity rather than a "subjective" (as in investor-oriented) approach to liquidity.

    Micropac

Micropac is 76% owned by Heinz-Werner Hempel. He a German businessman. You can see the German company he founded here. He had control of Micropac for a long-time. I don have an exact number in front of me. But I would guess it been something like 25 years.

    ADDvantage

ADDvantage Technologies is controlled by the Chymiak brothers. See the company April 4 press release explaining their decision to turn over the CEO position to an outsider. Regardless, the Chymiaks still control 47% of the company. Ken Chymiak is now chairman. And David Chymiak is still a director and now the company chief technology officer. Clearly, it still their company.

By the way, the name ADDvantage Technologies has nothing to do with the Chymiaks. Today AEY really traces its roots to a private company called Tulsat. The Chymiak brothers acquired that company about 27 years ago. So, effectively, when you buy shares of AEY you are buying into a 27-year-old family-controlled company.

That pretty typical in the world of net-nets.

    Solitron

Solitron Devices is 29% owned by Shevach Saraf. He has been the CEO for 20 years. The post-bankruptcy Solitron has never known another CEO. Before the bankruptcy, Solitron was a much bigger, much different company. So even though we are not talking about the founder here and even though 70% of the company shares are not held by the CEO wee still talking about a company where one person has a lot of control. Solitron only has three directors. Saraf is the chairman, CEO, president, CFO and treasurer. Neither of the other two directors joined the board within the last 15 years. So, we aren talking about a lot of tumult at the top.

In fact, profitable net-nets seem to be especially common candidates for abandoning the responsibilities of a public company without actually getting taken private.

Author and investor William Thorndike recently wrote a book looking at eight CEOs who outdid the S&P 500. In this video, John Reeves looks at what distinguished these CEOs. One characteristic: decentralized operations. CEOs like Warren Buffett allow managers to do their jobs without micro-managing them. These top CEOs also are frugal and don't spend a lot on themselves. They also tend to be skeptical and avoid the limelight. Perhaps, most importantly, exceptional CEOs don't follow the crowd. They make their own decisions without influence from Wall Street. Some companies that Thorndike recommends are Leucadia National (NYSE: LUK  ) and Markel Corporation (NYSE: MKL  ) . Thorndike also likes Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN  ) as a great example of a company doing its own thing and with a healthy disregard for Wall Street experts.

Another holding company that insiders are loading up on here is Leucadia National (LUK), which invests in beef processing, manufacturing, telecommunications, gaming, real estate, energy, medical product development and winery operations. Insiders are buying this stock into notable strength, since shares are up 12.6% so far in 2013.

Leucadia National has a market cap of $9.7 billion and an enterprise value of $11.2 billion. This stock trades at a cheap valuation, with a trailing price-to-earnings of 8.34. This is not a cash-rich company, since the total cash position on its balance sheet is $18.82 billion and its total debt is $20.20 billion. This stock currently sports a dividend yield of 0.90%.

A director just bought 40,000 shares, or about $1.06 million worth of stock, at $26.55 per share.

From a technical perspective, LUK is currently trending just below its 50-day moving average and just above its 200-day moving average, which is neutral trendwise. This stock has been consolidating for the last month, with shares moving sideways between $27.98 on the upside and $26.38 on the downside. A high-volume move above the upper-end of its recent sideways trading chart pattern could trigger a big breakout trade for shares of LUK.

If you're in the bull camp on LUK, then look for long-biased trades as long as this stock is trending above its 200-day at $26.30 or above more support at $25.61, and then once it breaks out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $27.42 to $27.98 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that registers near or above its three-month average action of 1.34 million shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then LUK will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $31.78 to $32.36 a share.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Dan Carroll]

Sales in the division's surgical care, diagnostics, and diabetes care businesses declined last year, while cardiovascular device sales slumped more than 13%. Cardiovascular device sales -- particularly in the cardiac rhythm management, or CRM, industry --have been on the decline lately industrywide; Medtronic (NYSE: MDT  ) , one of J&J's largest device competitors, has seen its CRM revenue fall 3% over the last nine months, and it's done far better than worse-off rivals in the industry. Don't expect this business to turn around quickly for J&J.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

While shares of Volcano have dropped 15% to $20.74, large-cap medical device companies are having a solid day. Boston Scientific (BSX) has gained 1.4% to 11.74, St. Jude Medical (STJ) has risen 0.9% to $48.13 and Medtronic (MDT) has ticked up 0.1% to $57.73.

  • [By Dan Burrows]

However, it’s not such a big deal for behemoths like Medtronic (MDT) and, yes, Stryker. With MDT and SYK doing about $17 billion and $9 billion in annual sales, respectively, the tax represents a large bill in dollar terms … but it’s hardly a crippling blow to revenue (or margins or profits) on a percentage basis.

  • [By Dan Carroll]

Edwards' stock's massive plunge today was probably too much for the miss, but the cardiovascular market overall has been tough on medical-device companies recently. St. Jude Medical (NYSE: STJ  ) reported falling sales in its most recent quarterly report, primarily because of cardiovascular-related revenue on the decline, and Medtronic (NYSE: MDT  ) , a competitor of Edwards' in the heart valve market with its CoreValve device, could still threaten the Sapien's sales despite a court ruling recently that judged the CoreValve to have infringed on one of Edwards' patents.

    On an island by itself
Within the offshore market, Hercules Offshore (NASDAQ: HERO  ) has isolated itself as a jack-up rig specialist. Even more specialized is the fact that 29 of its 38 rigs are currently drilling for fossil fuels in the Gulf Coast region. While many companies left the area after the Macondo incident, Hero decided to stick around and many expect this diligence to payoff. Tomorrow's release will certainly go a long way toward proving this optimistic group right or wrong.
